The Salvation Army Newark Area Services The Salvation Army Newark Area Services serves Newark and Essex County. In all of these arenas of service, we strive to offer a hand up, not a hand out.

The men and women of The Salvation Army have proudly served the people of Essex County for over 100 years. Throughout those years, our services and programs changed to better serve the changing needs of our communities. The same compassion and dedication brought to the Newark and the Essex County area by the founders, is still the standard in all we do. Each of our services address the challenges

faced by the working poor, single parents and families due to aging, hunger, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, homelessness and incarceration. As The Salvation Army always strives to keep its finger on the pulse of the community, we are consistently updating our programs to address what is happening and what is necessary to help those that are the most in need. Make our programs more comprehensive and capable of serving those facing special challenges in their lives - Join us. A few days ago, our Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent volunteers came together for a Day of Service unlike any other. Twenty-five years after 9/11, we still carry the weight of that day — but we also carry something stronger: the choice to turn grief into action.

So on that day, hands that have given so much to our community packed school backpacks for children starting a new year. New notebooks. New pencils. New hope.

Never Forget isn't just about remembering what happened — it's about remembering who we became because of it: a nation, a community, a family of volunteers who show up for each other.

With every pain, there is hope. And today, that hope had a backpack full of school supplies and a room full of hearts who never stopped serving.

This spring, youth at The Salvation Army Newark Area Services had the opportunity to explore the exciting world of STEM through a hands-on program made possible by the generous support of the Arman Roy Foundation.

Over the course of 10 weeks, participants learned computer coding by creating their own video games, explored graphic design by making comic books, and built and programmed robots. More than just learning new technology, they developed problem-solving skills and confidence along the way.

We look forward to offering this incredible program again this summer!
