Meet Compost Newark — Newark’s first backyard composting initiative using compost tumblers! ♻️
This new program is giving Newark residents the tools, knowledge, and community to turn food scraps into something valuable: healthy, nutrient-rich soil. 🌿
Participants will get access to:
🌱 Free composting workshops
🍎 Guidance on weighing & tracking food waste
♻️ Compost education and technical support
🤝 Community connection and check-ins
🪴 Discounted compost tumblers (limited availability)
And you don’t need to be a composting expert — or even have a backyard — to get involved! Newark residents of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to apply.

The City of Newark is hiring an Urban Forestry Program Manager to lead and manage the city’s urban forestry efforts and help shape the future of Newark’s tree canopy. 🌱

This role will oversee the Rooted In Newark initiative, develop long-term forestry strategies, and work to expand and protect Newark’s urban forest.

🌿 Preferred qualifications include:
• 5+ years of experience in urban/municipal forestry or a related field
• Master’s degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Public Administration, Environmental Management, or a related field

We loved meeting families and young readers as they picked out books, swapped stories, explored new worlds, and enjoyed the magic of reading outdoors under the summer stars! It was so much fun seeing our young readers get excited about books, nature, and all the adventures waiting both inside and outside the pages! 💫

🌸 Clinton Avenue Park is blooming! 🌿

Thanks to the dedication of our Sustainability Champions, Clinton Avenue Park is becoming a brighter, more beautiful space for the Newark community. Through two beautification events, volunteers helped bring new life to the park by planting flowers, caring for green spaces, and creating a place the community can enjoy.
