The Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company is a combination department staffed by volunteers as

well as paid personnel. The volunteers are supplemented by career firefighter/EMT's as well as part-time EMT's in order to provide the best possible service to our community. 06/03/2026: Several members and staff from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company were recognized at the 14th Annual New Castle County Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivor's Reunion hosted by the New Castle County Paramedics. The annual event recognizes all members (including bystanders, 9-1-1 communications personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMT's, and county paramedics) of the "chain of survival" for patients that had an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest event and were successfully discharged from the hospital with the highest brain function. Uniformed services personnel receive a Pre-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest Save Citation, including the following personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company:

06/06/2026 (NEWARK, DE 19702): At 11:30 a.m. the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company was dispatched for a motor vehicle collision involving a utility pole on Old Baltimore Pike and Dixie Line Road.

Fire department personnel arrived at the scene to find a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole, shearing the pole with smoking electrical lines down across Old Baltimore Pike. Old Baltimore Pike was subsequently closed in both directions, and Delmarva Power (Delmarva Connect) was requested for assistance.

One patient was transported by Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company ambulance and accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Department. A second patient was transported by Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company ambulance to the same hospital facility. The situation was declared under control at 12:30 p.m.

Most fire department units and personnel were clear the scene at 12:40 p.m., although fire police remain on scene with the traffic management unit to assist the police with traffic control. The Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.

06/06/2026: CRASH WITH POLE AND WIRES DOWN

Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company is currently on scene in the area of Old Baltimore Pike and Dixie Line Road for a motor vehicle collision with injuries involving a car that crashed into a utility pole. The pole has been sheared, and wires are down across Old Baltimore Pike.

Old Baltimore Pike is closed in both directions. Delmarva Power (Delmarva Connect) has issued power outage alerts to homes in the area.

06/05/2026 (NEWARK, DE 19702): At 9:30 a.m. the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company was alerted with the Singerly Fire Company, New Castle County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police Aviation Section to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Otts Chapel Road and Smith Way.

Fire department and EMS personnel arrived to find a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and SUV. One patient was transported by state police helicopter to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Department. The situation was declared under control at 9:57 a.m.

Otts Chapel Road was closed to traffic during the incident. All fire department units and personnel were clear the scene at 11:02 a.m. The Delaware State Police is investigating the collision.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.

06/03/2026 (NEWARK, DE 19713): At 10:25 p.m. the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company was alerted to a motor vehicle collision in the area of 56 Welsh Tract Road near the Villa Belmont Condominiums.

Fire department rescue and EMS personnel arrived to find a single vehicle crash with the New Castle County Police on scene. The occupant had already exited the vehicle. Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company EMS personnel assessed the patient, who declined further treatment or transport to a hospital.

Welsh Tract Road was temporarily closed during the response to the crash. All fire department units and personnel were clear the scene at 10:45 p.m.
