Dear Friend:

Frederick Law Olmstead was known as the “Father of American Landscape Architecture” and was a consultant on the early design of Essex County Branch Brook Park. Although the vision to preserve open space for the public’s use in Essex County was not realized until three decades later, Branch Brook Park was the first county park created in the United States when it opened in 1895.

You are cordially invited to join us at the ceremony where we will unveil a bronze bust of Olmsted in Branch Brook’s Prudential Concert Grove. The bust and granite pedestal pay homage to Olmsted as a pioneer in landscape design and recognize the landscape architectural firm headed by his sons, John C. and Frederick Law Jr., which designed many of the parks in the historic Essex County Parks System. It will be held as follows:

Date: Wednesday, October 24, 2018
Time: 12 Noon (promptly)
Place: Essex County Branch Brook Park
Prudential Concert Grove
Newark, NJ

The Prudential Concert Grove can be accessed via park entrances
at Park Avenue or Clifton Avenue. It will be held RAIN or SHINE.

Please extend this invitation to other members of your office and, if you are unable to attend, send a representative. Please RSVP by contacting Dulce Gomez at 973-621-4400 or [email protected] by Monday, October 22nd. Working together we will continue Putting Essex County First.

Sincerely,

Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.
Essex County Executive

Essex County Riverfront Park

Essex County Riverfront Park stretches from Brill Street to Oxford Street. It is bounded by Newark Housing Authority property on the east side, the Passaic River on the north side, Raymond Boulevard on the south side and a public area along the Passaic River owned by the City of Newark on the west side. With Essex County Riverbank Park, the city greenway and Essex County Riverfront Park all now linked together, a public greenway stretching nine city blocks long stretches from Van Buren Street to Brill Street.
