NJIT Police, in conjunction with our friends over at Rutgers Police Dept. and “World Central Kitchen” were able to gather dry and canned good donations; along with providing 76 Turkeys and 300 individual meals to families of students of neighboring Newark Schools. Sir Isaac Newton School, Camden Street School, and McKinley School were among the schools to receive the donations. So many “Thank You’s” are in order to EVERYONE who donated and made this Thanksgiving Food Drive so successful. So many families will enjoy wonderful meals at their tables on Thanksgiving thanks to this collaborative community effort. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN.

NJIT Police joins Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Ambrose in expressing our deepest regret on the passing of Newark Police Detective Marcus Thomas, 50, who succumbed to Coronavirus complications on Monday, September 28, 2020. “Detective Thomas served the City of Newark for 27-years and took exceptional pride in his work from early on as a patrolman, up to his last assignment in the Office of Professional Standards. He was always happy-go-lucky and greeted everyone with a smile. He touched each of our lives and we will miss him dearly”, said Director Ambrose. Detective Thomas joined the Newark Police Division in May 1993. His assignments included Central Communications, Safe City Task Force, and Neighborhood Enforcement. Rest In Peace, brother.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Join in the cause to help women in need today. Visit nationalbreastcancer.org to donate. Why pink? The pink ribbon represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the charitable goodness of people and businesses who publicly support the breast cancer movement. It is intended to evoke solidarity with women who currently have breast cancer. The NJIT Department of Public Safety honors this month and all of those affected by breast cancer, by donning pink digital patches on our social media •
