Behind every child-centered response at Wynona’s House, there is a team of dedicated, specialized nurses who work quietly, skillfully, and compassionately to help children heal.

During National Nurses Month, we are proud to recognize the specialized pediatric nurses of the RWJBarnabas Health | Newark Beth Israel Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center (RDTC) at Wynona’s House.

These nurses are uniquely trained in the medical evaluation of child abuse and neglect. Their work goes far beyond clinical care. They help children feel safe, supported, and heard during incredibly difficult moments, while also providing critical medical expertise that informs protection, treatment, and multidisciplinary response efforts.

Each day, they bring a rare combination of medical knowledge, calm presence, empathy, and professionalism to children and families across Essex County.

Their work is often behind the scenes, but its impact is lasting.

Thank you to the RDTC pediatric nursing team for the care, dignity, and hope you provide to children and families every day.

When a child needs help, the SANE nurses show up, whether it is 2 PM or 2 AM.

This National Nurses Month, we want to shine a light on a group of extraordinary nurses who rarely get the recognition they deserve: the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

These dedicated professionals are dispatched at any hour of the day or night to conduct compassionate, trauma-informed medical exams for child victims of sexual assault and abuse. Coordinated through the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) program of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office ounty Prosecutor's Office, they serve six Essex County hospital sites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are extremely grateful for their expertise, their compassion, and their unwavering commitment to Essex County's most vulnerable children. SANE nurses are a cornerstone of the multi-disciplinary team here at Wynona's House that makes justice and healing possible.
