Constituted 28 April 1959 in the Army Reserve as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 485th Chemical Battalion

Activated 25 May 1959 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Location changed 16 September 1998 to Wilmington, Delaware

Ordered into active military service 10 May 2007 at Wilmington, Delaware; released from active military service 12 June 2008 and reverted to reserve status

Location changed 27 April 2011 to Newark, Delaware
