Over the past two days The Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities Foundation, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, hosted Ohio's 2026 Mental Health and Addiction Conference: Inspiring A Stronger Tomorrow.

Thanks to support from Mental Health and Recovery for Licking and Knox Counties, our outpatient mental health therapist Alex Swearingen was able to attend and learn about innovative strategies and best practices in prevention, education, intervention, treatment, recovery, family support, and community engagement.

Opportunities like these help to keep our staff up to date on cutting edge work in the field and serve to strengthen our community's system of care. Thanks MHR!

Earlier this week staff from The Center for New Beginnings attended the Two Days In May Victim Assistance Conference hosted by The Ohio Attorney Generals office. This years theme was "One Mission, Many Voices." Two Days in May, marking its 33rd year, annually brings advocates together to share best practices, trends and developments in the field of victim assistance. This year’s event, which is organized by the Crime Victim Services Section of The Attorney Generals office, included two keynote speakers, 35 workshops, and more than 75 expert presenters from around Ohio. We are proud of our staff members who tirelessly advocate for survivors of domestic violence, and are grateful for the opportunity to continue learning how we can best support those we serve!

Today The Woodlands wore green for Mental Health Awareness Month in solidarity with our friends at Mental Health America of Licking County! Green is our reminder this month that nobody walks alone, we all have to take care of our mental health, and we have a community full of support that is ready to meet you where you are at.

🌱 Mental health is everything.
Not just on the hard days, but every single day. It’s the foundation for how we show up for ourselves, our families, our friends, and our dreams.

Too often we push through exhaustion, anxiety, sadness, or burnout like it’s normal. We say “I’m fine” when we’re barely holding it together. We scroll past our own needs to take care of everyone else.

But here’s the truth:

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

You’re allowed to rest.

You’re allowed to ask for help.

You’re allowed to not be okay.

If you’re struggling right now — whether it’s anxiety that won’t quit, depression that makes everything feel heavy, or just a constant feeling of being overwhelmed — I see you. You’re not weak. You’re human. And you matter more than your productivity or how “together” you look on the outside.

•Check on your strong friends.

•Check on the ones who always seem happy.

•And most importantly, check on yourself.

Small steps count:

• A 10-minute walk

• Saying no without guilt

• Reaching out to a friend

• Therapy

• Medication (when needed)

• Simply breathing through the hard moment

Mental health isn’t a luxury — it’s everything. Let’s normalize talking about it without shame.

If you’re reading this and needed this reminder today: You’ve already survived 100% of your hardest days. You’ve got this. One breath, one step, one day at a time.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Domestic violence can leave lasting impacts on mental health, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep difficulties, and the everyday weight of healing from trauma. ODVN's “Just Breathe: A Guide to Wellness” is a free, survivor-centered resource created with input from survivors across Ohio, offering grounding exercises, self-care tools, coping strategies, and practical tips for moving through hard moments.
