On June 1, 1996, more than 300,000 people gathered in Washington, D.C. for Stand for Children Day—a powerful demonstration that children deserve champions willing to stand up, speak out, and take action.

Joined by leaders such as Rosa Parks and Marian Wright Edelman, advocates from across the country came together to send a simple but urgent message: children matter.

Thirty years later, that message still resonates.

At CASA Essex, we see every day how one caring adult can change the trajectory of a child's life. As we celebrate 40 years of advocacy, we're reminded that progress happens when communities show up for children—not just for a day, but every day.

Because every child deserves to be seen. Heard. Supported.

Creativity with purpose. Connection through art.

Today for National Creativity Day, we are highlighting the students from who built and decorated skateboards and helmets with themes of mental health, mindfulness, positivity, and self-expression.

Using the creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills they develop in the classroom, these students turned their ideas into something meaningful for youth in foster care. These incredible creations were donated to CASA Essex youth as reminders that creativity can be healing, empowering, and deeply personal.

From encouraging messages to bold artistic designs, every board tells a story — and every child deserves opportunities to express themselves, feel supported, and simply have fun.

A huge thank you to Verizon for sponsoring and the NJIT students for using both their hearts and minds to make a meaningful impact for children and teens in foster care throughout Essex County.

One weekend. Two incredible community events.

This weekend, we had the opportunity to connect with community members at the Glen Ridge Arts & Eco Fair and Maplewood MayFest!

We loved meeting new people, sharing the important work of CASA Essex, talking about advocacy for children in foster care, and celebrating the power of community connection throughout Essex County.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, asked questions, shared stories, and learned more about how they can support children who need a consistent voice by their side.

There’s something special about being out in the community — because awareness starts with conversation, and conversations lead to impact.

Thank you to for supporting CASA Essex through its mini Nothing Bundt Cake fundraiser! Every donation helps CASA volunteers continue providing consistency, advocacy, and hope to children in foster care throughout Essex County.
