Today, I laid a wreath alongside City Council Members to honor the 2,977 people who were killed on September 11th, 2001.

Nearly 25 years ago, we watched the worst day occur in New York’s history — but it was a day that brought out the best in the people who called it home.

And that’s why today, we are proud to announce that the New York City Council has secured $1 million in the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, because every New Yorker should remember those souls we lost today — and how we make sure the next generation learns of them tomorrow.

Eleven New Yorkers lost their lives in the Upper East Side Legionnaires’ disease outbreak, and dozens more became sick.

I’m currently with my Council colleagues for an oversight hearing to examine the City’s response and to determine what we can do better.

New Yorkers deserve answers. And we must use the lessons from this tragedy to strengthen prevention, enforcement, and our public health response going forward.
