“As an Activist, Advocate, Humanitarian and Mother my goal is to leave this world better than I entered. Living a life filled with many woes of the world, I find joy in my community and family. They are what keep me going, especially in these times of uncertainty. I will and shall always strive to be on the right side of history.”
-- Octavia Y. Lewis, MPA (she/her), Interim Program Manager, Transgender Law Center

As Interim Program Manager at the Transgender Law Center, Octavia Y. Lewis supports the National Advisory Board of Positively Trans, the first national advisory board established by and for transgender individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Ms. Lewis possesses a deep understanding of the complexities and intersectionalities within society and is committed to advancing the interests of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Her dedication is evident through her roles as board member of both the Positively Trans National Advisory Board and the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health at UC San Francisco. She previously served as a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women–Manhattan Chapter and as a Board Member of Positive Women’s Network USA.

Medicaid is the backbone of HIV care in the U.S., covering 40% of adults living with HIV. Yet, recent federal funding cuts and new administrative barriers threaten to reverse decades of progress, putting lifesaving HIV care and prevention out of reach for many, especially for communities of color.

Protecting Medicaid protects public health, strengthens communities, and keeps the nation on track to end the HIV epidemic!
