The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, met with the Executive Committee of the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians ( ) and the Nigeria Independence Day Parade Committee to review preparations for the 2026 Nigeria Independence Day Parade, scheduled to hold on 3 October, 2026.
Discussions focused on key aspects of planning, including performing artists, strengthening publicity and marketing efforts as well as extending invitations to dignitaries and stakeholders.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Consulate and OAN to delivering a memorable celebration that showcases Nigeria's rich culture, unity and achievements while fostering stronger engagement with the Nigerian diaspora and friends of Nigeria.

The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, received a delegation led by Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President and CEO of Virginia Union University, at the Nigerian House.

Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration between Virginia Union University and Nigerian Universities in the areas of academic exchange, entrepreneurship, workforce development, research, and the development of sustainable educational models that prepare globally competitive graduates. The meeting also explored avenues for strengthening partnerships between Nigeria and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States.

The delegation included Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Pastor of Love Fellowship Tabernacle, who expressed interest in partnering with Nigerian stakeholders to establish a music school that would nurture young talent and promote creative and cultural exchange between Nigeria and the United States.

The Consulate remains committed to fostering partnerships that advance education, innovation, and people-to-people connections between both countries.
