Tenants run NYC, and we can make it run for us. The Mayor’s Housing Plan gives us new resources — $2.2 Billion for preservation — and new tools — like expanded rights to rent strike — but it’s up to us to organize our buildings and make this plan work for us. Landlords’ days are numbered; tenants are the majority. Join us!

With tenants and City Hall working together, we will put the worst landlords out of business, and win both affordable and dignified homes for working people. Tenant Bloc and Housing Justice for All Director Sumathy Kumar spoke today at Mayor Mamdani’s Housing Plan announcement.

If your business model only works by making housing more expensive and tenants more miserable, you should not be in business in New York! No more will our city stand for landlords who bet on harassment and displacement.… From our homes to the halls of power, we need strength in numbers to win. As tenants in New York City, the numbers are on our side. Tenants are 70% of this city. And with city hall, we will organize to usher in a new era that puts us, tenants, at the center of the city we run. We start today, let’s go.

2019 was just the beginning. We need the REST Act to ensure that rent stabilization becomes a reality across the state. Right now landlord lawsuits make it difficult for localities to pass rent stabilization. The REST Act would make it easier for cities to opt in, giving rent burdened tenants upstate access to tenant protections. Click the link in our bio and tell your legislators that tenants need REST.
