Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting The City of Brotherly Love! 🔔❤️

Philadelphia is a city with deep historical ties to Sweden and a Swedish presence that can still be felt today. We had a great visit filled with discussions about technology, life science, and politics, meeting with representatives from:

✔️Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia

A huge thank you to our Honorary Consul, Lauren Swartz, President & CEO of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, and Anna Tsuji, Director of Executive Affairs (World Affairs Council of Philadelphia), for making this visit possible! 🤝

Today is Election Day in Sweden! 🇸🇪🗳️

Every four years, Swedish citizens head to the polls to elect representatives to the Riksdag, as well as regional and municipal councils.

Free and fair elections are at the heart of Sweden’s democracy, giving citizens the opportunity to have their say in how the country is governed.

With voter turnaround above 80% for more than six decates, it’s fair to say that Sweden has made a habit of showing up at the polls.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we honor the memory of the victims and stand with their families and loved ones.

The events of 9/11 left a profound mark on New York City, the United States, and the world. The bravery of the first responders and all those who helped their communities heal left a lasting legacy of strength, solidarity, and hope.

As friends and partners, Sweden stands with New York City as we remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call, and reaffirm the values of resilience, solidarity, and openness that continue to unite us.

Swedish Election Day is on Sunday, 13 September! 🗳️

More Swedes abroad have voted early in this year's election compared to the 2022 election, and many missions abroad are breaking records with their voter turnout.

P1 Morgon interviewed the Swedish Embassies in London and Paris, an Honorary Consul in Torrevieja, and our very own Deputy Consul General, Johan Arvidsson (comes in at around 2:00!) about this year's election.

Fler utlandssvenskar verkar förtidsrösta i årets val, och på flera konsulat och ambassader talas det om möjliga rekordnivåer.

It’s National Read a Book Day! 📚

For 60 years, UNESCO has highlighted the importance of literacy as a fundamental human right. And while every day is a good day to read, today is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the joy and imagination that books bring.

“A childhood without books – that would be no childhood. That would be like being shut out from the enchanted place where you can go and find the rarest kind of joy.” ― Astrid Lindgren

Celebrate the day by stepping into the world of Pippi Longstocking, created by beloved Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi uses her extraordinary strength wisely and never abuses her power, making her a timeless symbol of feminism, freedom, strength and kindness.

The Consulate General of Sweden in New York was honored to join the closing of “Animals for Social Justice,” an exhibition and special International Dog Day program organized by Swedish artist Diana Llunjaeus and Italian artist Alessandra Mattanza in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations.

The event brought together UN representatives, animal welfare advocates, artists, and members of the UNDSS K9 Unit for conversations on animal welfare, biodiversity, sustainability, AI and technology for good, alongside inspiring musical and dance performances.

Sweden has long championed animal welfare, from the landmark animal protection reforms inspired by Astrid Lindgren, to modern regulations that safeguard dogs’ needs for social contact, exercise, mental stimulation, rest, and care.
