Looking for an abridged version of Christian Prayer, which itself is an abridged version of the Liturgy of the Hours? Check out "Shorter Christian Prayer: The Four-Week Psalter of the Liturgy of the Hours Containing Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer" in braille, published by Catholic Book Publishing . Spoiler alert - don't be fooled by the title. This book is anything but short (11 braille volumes!):

Shorter Christian Prayer covers only morning prayer (lauds), evening prayer (vespers) and night prayer (compline). The book also contains the Office of the Dead. The midmorning, midday, and midafternoon prayers and Readings are completely omitted.

Get weekend ready with a great Talking Book! Check out "William Stringfellow: Essential Writings." This title will play in the machines provided by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Here's a bit more about it:

William Stringfellow (1928-1985) Drawing on the biblical warnings against "powers and principalities,: he leveled a prophetic critique against a range of institutions--the church, seminaries, economic structures, and the idolatries of the modern war-making state. Trained as a lawyer, he was a lifelong gadfly in the Episcopal church, his chronic ill health fostering his tendency to see the world in the light of Eternity. His great theme was the Constantinian compromise, the accommodation of Christianity to the values of the empire and the preservation of status quo. "My concern," he wrote, "is to understand America biblically,"--in contrast to the more common tendency, to understand the Bible "Americanly."

Do you want to improve the way you pray and cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist? We've got a great braille book in mind... Check out "Pocket Guide to Adoration" by Father Josh Johnson.

Here is a bit more about this book published by Ascension : Drawing from the wisdom of the Church and the writings from spiritual masters like St. Teresa of Avila and Fulton Sheen, Fr. Josh Johnson has produced an evergreen resource that readers will want to take with them every time they go to Adoration.

This pocket guide includes:
- Stories of Eucharistic miracles
- Lectio divina prompts and reflections
- Inspiration from the saints
- Litanies and devotionals, including the Litany of Trust by Sr. Faustina Maria Pia of the Sisters of Life.

Those who struggle to stay focused in prayer, who struggle to be consistent in their relationship with Jesus, who don't know what to do in Adoration, or who simply need encouragement and inspiration to get there, will deeply appreciate this tiny but mighty book.

New in braille! "General Instruction of the Roman Missal" by United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This title was requested to be transcribed by Annie D. in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal is the detailed document governing the celebration of Mass of the Roman Rite in what since 1969 is its normal form. Pope Benedict XVI stressed the importance of proper knowledge of the General Instruction not only for priests but also for the laity: "The eucharistic celebration is enhanced when priests and liturgical leaders are committed to making known the current liturgical texts and norms, making available the great riches found in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal and the Order of Readings for Mass. Perhaps we take it for granted that our ecclesial communities already know and appreciate these resources, but this is not always the case. These texts contain riches which have preserved and expressed the faith and experience of the People of God over its two-thousand-year history."

Looking for a great audiobook this Throwback Thursday? Check out "May I Have This Dance?: An Invitation to Faithful Prayer Throughout the Year" by Joyce Rupp. This title will play in the machines provided by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled . This title is also available in braille and BRF!

Here's a bit more about this title published by Ave Maria Press : Far too many devotional books are sleep-inducing with their familiar pieties and uninspired homilies. Not so with this imaginative Christian work by Joyce Rupp, a member of the Servite (Servants of Mary) community. She is well known for her ministries as a writer, spiritual "midwife," and retreat leader. In May I Have This Dance?, with a sure hand, she exposes the fear of change that keeps us resistant to the dance. From her deep grasp of the unyielding soil of human nature she entreats: let God till your heart. This title explores twelve themes, including The Road to Life and The Playground of God, following each with prayer suggestions such as litanies, guided meditations, and journal keeping.

To find out why Pope Francis made Oscar Romero a saint, read the words that cost him his life in "The Scandal of Redemption: When God Liberates the Poor, Saves Sinners, and Heals Nations" edited by Carolyn Kurtz. This title is available in braille and Talking Book - compatible with the machines provided by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.

Here's a bit more about this braille book published by Plough : Three short years transformed El Salvador’s Archbishop Oscar Romero from a defender of the status quo into one of the most outspoken voices of the oppressed. An assassin’s bullet ended his life, but his message lives on. In March 2018 Pope Francis announced that the Catholic Church would canonize Oscar Romero, acknowledging that he is indeed a saint who was martyred for proclaiming the gospel, and that the political and social implications of that message, which so scandalized the powerful, flowed directly from Romero’s faithfulness to the teachings of Jesus.

These selections from Romero’s diaries and radio broadcasts invite each of us to align our own lives with the way of Jesus that lifts up the poor, welcomes the broken, wins over enemies, and transforms the history of entire nations.
