During a routine colonoscopy on a 59-year-old man, physicians encountered a completely unexpected “guest” — a live ladybug inside the colon.

This appears to be the first documented case of its kind worldwide.

🐞 What started as a standard procedure quickly became a case worthy of medical reporting. The discovery raised an obvious question: How did it get there?

At present, there’s no definitive answer, but two main possibilities have been proposed:
• Accidental ingestion or entry during sleep, with the insect surviving transit through the gastrointestinal tract.
• The bowel-prep process before colonoscopy, where laxatives accelerate intestinal transit, potentially allowing the ladybug to pass through without being digested.
