NYU Amputee Support Program

NYU Amputee Support Program LEAP: The Amputee Support Program at NYU Langone Medical Center (Please visit http://amputee-support.med.nyu.edu/)

LEAP stands for "Learning and Encouragement of Amputees w/ and w/o Prostheses". We are a peer-to-peer resource for amputees in the community to meet and network with other amputees. We also meet regularly at our monthly support group meetings and sponsor social/recreational events. Monthly meetings for the Amputee Support Program are open to the public and occur the last Thursday of every month fr

om 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The meetings are held at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at 400 E. 34th St on the 1st Floor in Room 111.

Changes in the brain following amputation have been linked to pain arising from the missing limb, called ‘phantom pain’, in an Oxford University brain imaging study.
