The juicy family drama in Olympus Texas did not disappoint! March returns to Olympus two years after fleeing town when his affair with his brother’s wife comes to light. His mom, June, continues to give him the cold shoulder — jaded by the repeated infidelity of her own husband, Peter. In fact, Peter’s grown children from one of his affairs come to play a central role in the book’s drama. Absent a single blameless character in the whole story, the family’s flaws continue to unravel in the face of tragedy.

The story alternates chapters between present days of the week and “origin” stories that provide the background for characters’ current feelings and attitudes. I was honestly not smart enough to pick up on the allusions to Greek Mythology throughout the book (even the title!), but my book club clued me into the contemporary nods to the Greek gods and goddesses throughout. This was a great book club pick with lots to discuss at the end!
