Meet the fabulous graduates of Care Corps Cohort 5 🎉

Over the past six weeks, this incredible group has been building the skills they need to thrive in the behavioral health field—learning together in the classroom at Project Renewal and practicing real-world scenarios in a simulated clinical environment at NYC Health + Hospitals. Along the way, they received hands-on training and personalized feedback from experienced staff, all designed to prepare them for what comes next.

As one participant put it, “I learned more in these 6 weeks than I learned in 10 years on the job!”

Graduates, your compassion, dedication, and heart truly shine. We can’t wait to see you step into the field and become the kind of care providers that we’ve always wanted for ourselves, our family members, our friends, and our communities!

This is what it’s all about! This week, we celebrated our 55th Next Step Internship Program (NSIP) graduation—a day filled with warmth, shared stories, and pride. These tenacious individuals successfully completed eight weeks of classroom learning and hands‑on internships at shelters and supportive housing sites. They are now ready to step confidently into the social services field.

Graduates, thank you for allowing us to be part of your next steps and for letting us witness the truly special community you built together. We’re beyond proud of all you’ve accomplished and excited to continue supporting you as you grow and thrive in this important work.

The holidays remind us how much connection matters.

At Project Renewal, we know housing is the foundation, but relationships are what turn it into home.

Our staff, from occupational therapists to recreation specialists to residential aides, create spaces for people to come together through community celebrations, reading groups, cooking classes, pet therapy, art workshops, and more.

This holiday season, your support creates opportunities for neighbors to rediscover joy, build relationships, and feel they belong.

That’s community, powered by you. Donate today: https://www.projectrenewal.org/get-involved/renewal-powered-by-you/

With rent rising and the cost of living continuing to go up, living-wage jobs matter more than ever.

That’s why this year we launched Care Corps: a FREE training program that helps New Yorkers who care about mental health step into psychiatric healthcare careers, starting at $50K a year.

This is renewal, powered by you. Together, we’re helping people secure meaningful work that actually pays, and build futures they can count on. Support today: https://www.projectrenewal.org/get-involved/renewal-powered-by-you/

We believe everyone deserves care they can count on, no matter their insurance status, ability to pay, or zip code. Project Renewal’s mobile and urgent care clinics bring FREE healthcare to people exactly where they are, when they need it.

And next year, we’re opening four new clinics in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, offering primary care, pediatrics, women’s health, behavioral health, and psychiatry to the whole community.

Together, we can power accessible healthcare for New Yorkers who need it most. Donate today: https://www.projectrenewal.org/get-involved/renewal-powered-by-you/

When New Yorkers face hard times, we look out for each other.

Life continues to get more expensive, affordable housing is harder than ever to find, and the recent interruptions to SNAP benefits caused an acute crisis—but nothing can stop New Yorkers from leaning on each other.

Your support powers everything Project Renewal does: opening new housing, delivering free healthcare, and helping people build stable careers. But thousands still need a place to call home and support they can count on. Will you help power renewal for New Yorkers across our city?

Meet Our Community: LORRAINE🌟

As Project Renewal’s psychiatric nurse care manager, Lorraine helps New Yorkers living in shelters access mental healthcare, with the goal of supporting their wellbeing and getting them into permanent housing sooner. With decades of outreach experience, Lorraine describes her approach as deeply relational.

“I spend a lot of time with clients. What I enjoy most is that I’m able to be me and they are able to be them. Sometimes it's not just medicine that heals a person. It's sitting down, talking with them, understanding them, and letting them take control.”

On November 1st, SNAP benefits could be suspended nationwide, leaving millions of people, including many of our clients, residents, and fellow New Yorkers, without the food support they count on. You can make an immediate difference for those going hungry.

Shop our grocery wishlist to keep our community fed and cared for. Every can, every bag, and every box goes directly to Project Renewal clients across the city.

Yesterday we celebrated the grand opening of Bedford Green House II, Project Renewal’s newest supportive and affordable housing residence in Bedford Park. 🌿🏙️

BGH II is home to a beautiful intergenerational community. The LEED-certified building provides 116 new apartments for individuals and families impacted by homelessness, mental illness, and/or substance use disorder; older adults; and community members with low income.

We believe housing should be a right for all New Yorkers. With this opening, we are one step closer to that vision.

Thank you to our incredible partners, elected officials, neighbors, and residents who stood together, despite the rain, to share this joyful moment. Together, we’re building a city where everyone has a place to call home.💚
