Dear On The Count Facebook Family. On behalf of Harmony (our Senior Producer), Mari (Our Latinx Affairs Producer) and me, Andre Ward (Executive Producer), we hope you are safe and well. In February of 2022 On the Count: The Prison and Criminal Justice Report will mark 20 years of being aired on 99.5FM WBAI. As a radio show broadcast from the perspective of people formerly incarcerated for stakeholders involved in criminal justice public policy formulation, law, research, legislation, reform litigation, social service provision, advocacy and activism, we thank and are grateful for all of the leaders who have assumed various producer, engineer, and communications roles to bring On the Count (now On The Count Inc. The Prison and Criminal Justice Report) to where it is today. And we also thank WBAI for its years of support to give formerly incarcerated/people with criminal legal system histories a platform to share a perspective that can only be given by us. As a vision of Eddie Ellis, who is now with our ancestors - but remains our Executive Producer, On the Count has and continues to grow – as we now air every Saturday morning, from 10am-11am and Tuesday evening, from 9pm-10pm. One other vision Eddie always had was to make On The Count an organization that would have local and national impact –reaching areas throughout each state in America so that people could join in the movement to deconstruct the Criminal Legal/Punishment System and decarcerate prisons and jails throughout the United States until ultimately we get to a place of abolishing prison and jails altogether. Now Eddie’s vision to make On the Count an organization has become a reality and we ask that you now join On The Count Inc. The Prison and Criminal Justice Report) in its new journey as an organization! We expect to bring more insightful program representing all communities impacted by the Criminal Legal System and policy stakeholders that seek to effect meaningful legislative change. Again, join us using our new page and new journey by friending us on our new page. As Eddie said – and we always say in closing our show “Don’t Give In. Don’t Give Out. Don’t Give Up. Stand Tall in Spite of it All and Stay On The Count!” – Eddie Ellis
With gratitude for all that you do to support the movement!
Andre
