NYC Department of Probation’s NeONs are helping students get ready for the new school year with FREE backpacks and essential school supplies across NYC!

📍 Events are happening in Brooklyn, Harlem, Staten Island, the Bronx, and Queens beginning August 19.

Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to arrive early!

Yesterday NYC Probation Commissioner Sharun Goodwin joined NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, NY/NJ HIDTA Executive Director Chauncey Parker, NY Attorney General Letitia James, and New York City’s District Attorneys to announce that more than 3,000 guns have been taken off New York City streets since January 2026.

The announcement came on the fifth anniversary of the Gun Violence Strategies Partnership—a multiagency collaboration that brings law enforcement and public safety partners together to focus resources on those driving gun violence and help make our communities safer.

At NYC Probation, we’re proud to be part of the coordinated work helping reduce violence and strengthen public safety across the five boroughs.

Last night, the NYC Department of Probation proudly joined communities across the five boroughs for National Night Out, reinforcing our commitment to building safer, stronger neighborhoods through partnership and engagement.

Our dedicated staff were present at 23 National Night Out events citywide, connecting with residents, community organizations, and our public safety partners. Commissioner Sharun Goodwin also had the honor of presenting a proclamation during the celebration at the NYPD 28th Precinct in Harlem, recognizing the importance of collaboration in advancing public safety and strengthening community trust.

Together, we’re creating safer communities—one neighborhood at a time.

While the official appreciation week has wrapped up, our commitment to New York City remains constant. 🗽True community impact cannot be confined to a seven-day celebration. Special shoutout to The Mayor’s Office, City Hall, the NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, NYC Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, NYC Sheriff Edwin Raymond, NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella, Former DOP Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi, Special Advisor for NY State Division of Criminal Justice Services Ricardo Cosme Ruiz, the UPOA, Theater of War, and our many partners & stakeholders for supporting our event in person.

It was a great opportunity to come together, celebrate the dedication of our team, and recognize the incredible work being done across all five boroughs.
