What a historic visit — bringing the UNWLA president Natalie Pawlenko together with women from so many branches of the Ukrainian Women’s League (UWL) across Volyn for the first time ever!
Together with UWL national president Orystlava Sydorchuk the group met at Stare Misto, a very special café created to give young people with Down syndrome a place to work, grow, and be part of the community.
Today, the café is also a hub for organizing support Ukraine’s defenders. Pawlenko stated “What stayed with me most was the sense of connection — so many women, from so many communities, coming together with the same purpose and love for Ukraine.”

We are pleased to share that the first shipment of Wound VAC machines and individual treatment supplies for severely wounded defenders and civilians has arrived at Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro Дніпропетровська обласна клінічна лікарня Мечникова

Thanks to your generosity, we have delivered $100,000 worth of life-saving medical equipment and supplies.

Wound VAC (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy) systems are among the most effective tools available for treating severe traumatic injuries. By applying controlled negative pressure, they help accelerate healing, reduce the risk of infection, manage fluid buildup, and stimulate tissue regeneration – significantly improving recovery outcomes for patients with complex wounds.
While Wound VAC pump units can be reused, each patient requires an individual set of treatment supplies. That means the need is ongoing.

We continue raising funds to provide Wound VAC machines and essential treatment supplies to trauma centers at four key hospitals in Ukraine.

When an emergency strikes in Ukraine, the ability to respond quickly matters.

This summer, our partners at Іскра Добра lost their food delivery truck after months of operating under extreme conditions — delivering food and water to first responders at the sites of russian attacks and reaching communities hit hardest by the war.

With support from the UNWLA Social Welfare Fund, a replacement vehicle was purchased — and it is already at work, continuing this critical mission.

🇺🇦 125+ events. Communities nationwide. One message of support for Ukraine.

We are proud to report on the second annual nationwide campaign jointly organized by UNWLA and the American Coalition for Ukraine, providing communities with an actionable toolkit and bringing people together to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day.

This year, more than 125 events across the country were featured on our interactive digital map – from flag raisings and rallies to concerts, community celebrations, and landmarks illuminated in blue and yellow.

At the heart of this effort were UNWLA members leading in their communities. Through grassroots advocacy and strong relationships with elected officials, Soyuzianky helped secure official proclamations recognizing Ukrainian Independence Day and brought communities together in support of Ukraine.

From city halls to public squares, UNWLA members continue to keep Ukraine visible and strengthen American support for its freedom. 🇺🇦🇺🇸

Earlier this week, to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s regained independence, the UNWLA Archives gifted the New York Public Library Research Collection Ukrainian- and English-language editions of Mykola Mikhnovsky’s Independent Ukraine (1900), arranged by Roman Koval

Written more than a century ago, Independent Ukraine was one of the earliest works to boldly articulate the vision of Ukraine as a sovereign, independent state — at a time when such a future seemed almost unimaginable.

Today, 35 years after Ukraine regained its independence, UNWLA continues its mission of preserving and sharing the ideas, history, and voices that shaped Ukraine’s path to sovereignty. By making this important work accessible through one of the world’s leading research libraries, we are helping ensure that Ukraine’s history reaches new generations of readers, scholars, and researchers. 🇺🇦

We are deeply honored to share that UNWLA President Natalie Pawlenko has been presented with the Golden Cross, an honorary distinction of the Military Chaplaincy Center of the Lviv Archeparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in recognition of UNWLA’s many years of cooperation and steadfast support for Ukraine.
During the visit, Natalie Pawlenko and Orystlava Sydorchuk , President ВГО Союз Українок had an opportunity to learn more about the work of the “Prostir Syly” (Space of Strength) at the Гарнізонний храм свв. апп. Петра і Павла and the vital ministry of military chaplains serving Ukraine’s defenders and their families.

We are sincerely grateful to the Military Chaplaincy Center for this meaningful recognition. We receive it as an acknowledgment of the collective work of our entire UNWLA community – generations of women whose commitment to Ukraine continues through service, partnership, and action.

Our deepest gratitude to everyone carrying this mission forward and to our partners in Ukraine who allow us to stand beside them where support is needed most.

This Monday, communities around the world celebrated the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

At the UNWLA Book Club, we decided to mark this milestone by reading and discussing the legacy of one of the strongest advocates for Ukraine’s liberation from Russian oppression — Ivan Vovchuk.

We are honored to welcome a prominent community leader and Ivan Vovchuk’s grandson, Yurij Wowczuk, who will join us for this special discussion.

We are deeply proud to share that Natalie Pawlenko , President of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, has been awarded the Order of Princess Olga, Third Class, by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 🇺🇦

This distinguished state honor recognizes Natalie’s service to Ukraine – but, as she so powerfully expressed, this recognition also belongs to generations of UNWLA women who, for more than 100 years, have never forgotten Ukraine.

For a century, our members have carried Ukraine in their hearts, preserved its language and culture, defended its truth, supported its people, and stood beside it through moments of hope and profound hardship. Generations and circumstances have changed, but that commitment has endured.

We are profoundly grateful to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States, and Chargé d’Affaires Denys Sienik for this extraordinary recognition.

We congratulate Natalie on this tremendous honor and celebrate it as a powerful recognition of a century of service by UNWLA women – those who came before us, those who serve today, and those who will carry this mission forward.

🏥 The work of healing never ends in Ukraine. Natalie Pawlenko , UNWLA president from the USA and Orystlava Sydorchuk, President of ВГО Союз Українок visited the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital in Lutsk, Ukraine.

🇺🇸 The Ukrainian-American diaspora and UNWLA have been supporting the hospital for several years, particularly in the treatment of wounded Ukrainian servicemen. Oksana Bilozir (former Minister of Culture in Ukraine) helped establish the partnership and an earlier visit together with UNWLA member Valentyna Tabaka took place to update the UNWLA about their needs.

🏥 UNWLA had already assisted the hospital by providing VAC wound-therapy equipment.

🏥 Visiting the hospital is one of the key parts of Natalia’s visit to Ukraine this August. The delegation visited the Recovery rehabilitation center, where they learned about rehabilitation methods used to help wounded servicemen regain function and return to normal life; the department caring for wounded patients before and after surgery, where doctors discussed complex procedures, and the effective use of VAC systems.

“I am deeply impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the hospital staff, particularly their ability to treat very serious and complicated cases under extremely difficult wartime conditions” said Pawlenko. “We are happy to hear that the woundVAC systems donated by UNWLA are being actively and effectively used to treat and rehabilitate patients.”

🏥 And looking forward, the hospital’s surgical medical director, Mykola Halei, said that during the visit the hospital and UNWLA agreed on continued cooperation.
