Meet Yume Kitasei, commissioner of DCAS. đź‘‹

A self-described “city government nerd,” Commissioner Kitasei has dedicated her career to public service. She began working for the city as an intern at just 16 years old and has never looked back. As the commissioner of DCAS, she now leads the agency charged with keeping city government running. Talk about landing your dream job! She says the most rewarding part of her role is working alongside her team to imagine and shape the future of New York City government.

Outside of work, Commissioner Kitasei still has time for a few hobbies. She enjoys writing, running, and going to Broadway shows with her mother. She’s also a gamer and loves playing with friends. Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of her faves! 🎮

Congratulations to this season's High School Automotive Internship Program graduates! 🚗🎓

Last week, DCAS joined New York City Public Schools to celebrate the completion of another successful internship cohort. The program allows students to gain hands-on experience working on the largest municipal fleet in the nation. Alongside experts from agencies across city government, students learned how to support and maintain New York city’s diverse fleet of vehicles.

Commissioner Kitasei had the opportunity to address this year’s graduates and emphasized that “programs like these are so important—as we invest in our future leadership.”

Congratulations to all of this year’s interns on this incredible achievement!

Congratulations to this year’s energy award recipients! 🏆🌱

Last week, DCAS took a trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York to celebrate the city employees, non-profits, and partners from across the city that are leading the way on energy efficiency and climate action across New York City.

While often working behind the scenes, their efforts are delivering real results. In the city's latest greenhouse gas inventory, New York City achieved its strongest climate performance to date, reducing emissions from government operations by 31% since 2006 and lowering building energy consumption by 16%.

As Commissioner Kitasei noted, “None of this progress was possible without the individuals in this room right now.”

Congratulations to all of this year's Energy Champions and award recipients, and thank you to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York for lending us its iconic space.

A greener future for a Brooklyn icon. 🌱🏛️

Today DCAS, Brooklyn Museum, and the New York Power Authority announced in partnership a substantial $48 million energy efficiency project that will modernize the Museum’s century-old building with solar power, revamp the HVAC systems, and add a new high-efficiency heating plant, as well as other sustainability improvements.

When complete, the project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3,300 metric tons annually—the equivalent of removing 725 vehicles from the road.

By investing in energy-efficient upgrades at cultural institutions, some of which are over 200 years old, we are future-proofing these historic spaces while lowering emissions for generations to come.
