Happy Pride Month from Generation Q! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

At Queens Community House, we believe every young person deserves a space where they can be fully themselves, build meaningful connections, and feel supported for who they are.

Generation Q is our drop-in center for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13–21, offering a welcoming community where young people can connect with peers, explore their identities, express their creativity, and access the support they need to thrive.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the joy, resilience, and strength of LGBTQ+ youth across Queens and reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where everyone belongs.

“When I first walked into a QCH event in November 2023, I had no idea it would lead me to such a meaningful community. A friend invited me to a volunteer appreciation dinner at the Kew Gardens Community Center, and through that experience, I met staff members who introduced me to volunteer opportunities across QCH.

I started by helping at the Queens Center for Gay Seniors during holiday events and birthday celebrations, serving meals and spending time with older adults. Over time, I became involved with programs across different QCH sites, including Neighbors in Action and eBasics at Beacon 149, where I help older adults with technology.

What keeps me volunteering is the sense of community. QCH brings together people from so many different cultures and backgrounds, and everyone is welcomed for who they are. I’ve built meaningful connections with both older adults and young people, and I’ve learned so much from them along the way— not only did I learn the vast diversity of my community, but also how to unite, embrace and practice inclusion throughout all different cultures and breaking through superficial barriers.

One of my favorite memories is learning how to play Rummikub from older adults at the Queens Center for Gay Seniors. Now it’s one of my favorite games, and I always look forward to playing with them.

Before volunteering with QCH, I was going through personal struggles in life and had stepped away from work for a time. Volunteering helped me stay motivated, gain confidence, and grow as a person. I learned leadership skills, how to take initiative, and how to better support others.

What motivates me to continue volunteering is the kindness and appreciation I feel here. QCH became more than a place to volunteer — it became a community where I truly feel I belong.”

“I first learned about Queens Community House through my sister at a moment when my life felt like it was collapsing. I was behind on rent, facing eviction, and unsure where to turn. Desperate for support, I reached out to QCH and was immediately connected with Christopher Gonzalez and Marisol Moore, who became unwavering pillars of support.

Christopher checked in with me regularly, offering guidance and reassurance during an incredibly stressful time. Marisol advocated for me from the very beginning, staying by my side through every step of the process. Their persistence and compassion ultimately helped me avoid eviction and keep my home.

One moment that stands out to me was the day I went to housing court and the judge recommended that I go directly to the Forest Hills Community Center for housing support. I went there right after my court appointment and met Marisol, who immediately threw herself into the mix and began helping me navigate next steps. From that point on, I didn’t feel alone.

Reflecting on the experience, I can honestly say that a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Life after receiving support feels more stable and hopeful. With my housing secure, I can finally breathe again. Beyond addressing my immediate housing crisis, QCH gave me motivation to do better and move forward with more confidence.

I am deeply grateful to QCH, and especially to Christopher and Marisol, whom I consider remarkable individuals who consistently go above and beyond. I have already recommended QCH to a friend and will continue to refer anyone who needs help.

I would not call it advice, but rather a recommendation. Anyone who is struggling with anything, from finances to food to housing, I definitely recommend QCH. Their support truly made all the difference.”

QCH was outside City Hall today! 🗣️

It’s simple: equal work deserves equal wages.
Despite this, nonprofit human services workers earn 30% less than City workers — for the same job.

📣That’s why we’re rallying to support Int 0452 (Wage Equity Legislation), which would help close the pay gap and advance for our workers.

By creating a new wage requirement system that aligns nonprofit and City salaries, Int 0452 goes beyond short-term fixes. It creates an entirely new system that supports wage equity for the long-haul.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and New York City Council — pass Int 0452 now!
