A new study co-authored by Associate Professor Nevin Cohen finds that cities across the Global North could dramatically expand urban agriculture using existing residential and community spaces.

Researchers found that 12% to 24% of land in five global cities could support food production, with the potential to supply a substantial share of local vegetable demand while reducing food waste through composting.

The findings highlight how urban agriculture can support healthier diets, greener neighborhoods, and more sustainable urban food systems, but scaling up will require major investments in community participation, training, and infrastructure.

A study from researchers finds that telehealth continues to provide an important source of care for sexual and gender minority adults, especially for mental health, medication management, and sexual health services.

Participants described telehealth as more private, convenient, and psychologically safe—particularly when connected with LGBTQ+-affirming providers. At the same time, barriers such as long wait times, insurance limits, and difficulty finding knowledgeable providers remain.

The findings highlight opportunities to make telehealth more accessible, inclusive, and affirming for LGBTQ+ communities.
