🎉 50 years of community at Harborview Terrace!

New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)'s Harborview Terrace in Hell’s Kitchen celebrated its 50th anniversary with residents, neighbors, elected officials, community partners, music, dancing, free lunch, and of course ice cream! 🍦

For longtime residents, the celebration was a chance to reflect on decades of memories, friendships, and community. Tenant Association President Maria Guzman has lived at Harborview Terrace since it was first built and says the development became a “home away from home” for many neighborhood families.

This summer, middle school students from five New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments participated in the NYCHA STEAM Innovators program, working with STEAM educators and professional designers to develop plans for new multi-use spaces at their local community centers.

Youth from Eastchester Gardens, Roosevelt II, West Brighton, Manhattanville, and Ravenswood Houses created vision boards, prototype sketches, 3D models, technical floor plans, and conducted community interviews to understand what their neighbors need.

On August 13, NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt joined the students at West Brighton Houses in Staten Island as they presented their design plans to community stakeholders. She said, “It’s really clear from what we saw and heard this morning that you’ve been working hard, collaborating with great mentors, and have put a lot of thought, passion, and enthusiasm into your creative efforts.”

This fall, the students’ visions will begin coming to life with support from NYCHA, the Salvadori Center, the Public Housing Community Fund, and other partners.

Congratulations to longtime New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Caretaker Andrew Adams, who was honored as the runner-up for this year’s John DeCarlo Memorial Award! 👏🏽💙

Mr. Adams has dedicated 31 years to serving in Brooklyn, including nearly seven years at Taylor Street-Wythe Avenue Houses. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming communities for residents.

At Taylor-Wythe, Mr. Adams is known for going above and beyond, helping residents, maintaining outdoor spaces, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting his colleagues with his years of experience and expertise.

Congratulations to the 116 young New Yorkers who graduated from the 2026 Swim Safety Corps! 🌊👏🏽

Now in its fourth year, the Swim Safety Corps gives youth from underserved communities the opportunity to build lifesaving water safety skills while exploring careers in the blue economy.

Over six weeks, participants completed 150 hours of training, including pool and open-water instruction, CPR/AED certification, water rescue demonstrations, surfing, kayaking, career readiness workshops, and mentorship.

The program is a partnership between the Public Housing Community Fund, Rising Tide Effect, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the NYC Mayor's Office, and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and other partners.

This year’s graduating class is the largest in the program’s history. We’re proud to celebrate these young people as they take the skills, confidence, and connections they gained into their futures. 💙

Through the Eastchester Gardens Community Inspectors Program, trained and compensated residents are monitoring improvements, conducting building walk-throughs, speaking with neighbors, and documenting feedback to help ensure commitments to the community are upheld.

The program is part of the “Little Lamb Agreement,” which strengthens accountability and transparency between the Resident Association and PACT partners.

“This program can give residents and other resident associations a sense of clarity and transparency while ensuring that their protections are set for years to come,” said Crystal Brown, Eastchester Gardens RA Vice President.

Eastchester Gardens recently completed its first year in the PACT program, with residents highlighting progress including construction completed at three buildings, more than 2,400 work orders resolved, new job opportunities, and $200,000 in additional rental arrears assistance.

Rangel Houses recently celebrated its 75th anniversary! 🎉

The Harlem community came together to honor two longtime residents, Marian Woods-Saintcye, 101, and Irene McKay, 98. Their decades-long connections to Rangel Houses reflect the enduring bonds and sense of community built through public housing.

As Rangel Houses commemorates this milestone, the development is also looking ahead to a comprehensive rehabilitation through NYCHA’s program—marking an exciting new chapter for the nearly 2,000 residents who call it home.

! “NYCHA in Your Neighborhood” is coming back this fall.

Residents can participate in small-group discussions, ask questions, share concerns, and connect with NYCHA staff and other City agencies about issues including repairs, elevators, pests and waste, environmental concerns, public safety, and more.

📍 Queens — September 16
📍 Staten Island — September 30
📍 Bronx — October 14
📍 Brooklyn — November 18
📍 Manhattan — December 2

Each forum will take place from 6:30–8:30 p.m. and will cover NYCHA developments throughout the borough.

The first three forums in May and June brought 446 New Yorkers together with City and NYCHA leadership and resulted in 151 issues receiving follow-up.

New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) communities came together for National Night Out! 🏘️💙

On August 4, NYPD hosted National Night Out events at more than 70 locations across New York City, including events at or near NYCHA developments throughout Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.

The nine Police Service Areas serving NYCHA developments hosted events where residents connected with local officers, elected officials, businesses, and neighbors while enjoying an evening of summer activities.

NYCHA leadership and staff from across the Authority joined residents and community partners to celebrate the officers who serve NYCHA communities and recognize their commitment to building stronger relationships and safer neighborhoods.

Thank you to everyone who helped make National Night Out a celebration of community, connection, and public safety! 💙
