On an ordinary day, anyone who meets Danya is immediately swept up in her passionate, and energetic personality. This morning, with the prospect of saving a stranger's life her enthusiasm was supercharged!
Mrs. Danya Stechler is a mother of a large family, a teacher, and a hospital chaplain. Additionally, she stands side by side with her husband, Rav Aryeh Stechler, in his role as Rosh Yeshiva of the prominent Heichel Hatorah yeshiva in Teaneck, NJ. With so much on her plate, one would think that fitting in kidney donation would be impossible. However, Danya says bring it on!
She is donating to David, a sweet and kind man who is looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild this month! Through Danya's kindness, this grandchild, and bez"H others in the future, will have a strong and vibrant grandfather to be there with them as they grow up.

Today's donor is a nurse and young mother from Brooklyn, NY. She had a passion to donate her kidney altruistically and swabbed during a campaign that Renewal ran. After swabbing, she heard that her husband's uncle was in need of a kidney. Not being a blood relative she did not think that there was a good chance of her being a great match for her uncle. However, she reached out to Renewal to check. It turns out that she was a great match for her uncle, and joyfully and courageously donated her kidney this morning to save her uncle's life.

With Renewal's encouragement, Steven and his wife spread the word far and wide about Steven's need for a live kidney donor. They made shirts, magnets, and.....lawn signs. This father of 2 had so much more that he wanted to accomplish with his life and he needed a kind kidney donor to step forward to keep him going forward with good health.
One day Chris was driving past Steven's home when he saw the lawn sign. Although many others had passed the sign and kept going, Chris who did not know Steven wrote down the information from the sign and contacted Renewal. This began a journey of testing which culminated with Chris donating his kidney this morning at Cornell hospital to Steven.
It all started with a lawn sign!

When Ed found out that he was in need of a kidney transplant, close friends told him to contact Renewal as they had been helped through Renewal. Ed and his wife started doing outreach to find a kidney donor with Renewal's guidance. After hearing about the process of kidney donation, Ed's wife swabbed amongst others. It turns out that she was a great match for her husband!!
Today, Phylis is donating her kidney to her husband of 44 years. Ed's kidney match was right there, waiting for him in his own home.

In the moments before Lag Baomer, when we celebrate the cessation of the tragedy of the students of Rabbi Akiva who perished because they didn't treat each other with proper respect, Chany, of Queens, NY is truly embodying the character trait of Ahavas Chinam. Today, she is donating her kidney to someone whom she does not even know.
Chany has an unusual job. She works as a forensic mental health professional at Rikers Island (see this article which highlighted her work)!! Today, she is in a very different setting. She is in the hospital undergoing surgery to save the life of a father who looks forward to a life free of dialysis.
