Women Center Stage, an initiative of Culture Project, New York’s premier home for socially conscious theater, supports and promotes the work of artists who identify as womxn. It also celebrates the unique contribution of womxn to social justice and human rights. The festival has grown into a means of initiating work on all levels, a place for artists to build community, share their stories, and launch provocative and relevant new work.
The Women Center Stage Festival provides a much needed home for exploring new ideas and inspiration, testing out early stages of new work, and putting womxn artists in conversation with new audiences, potential collaborators, mentors and a vibrant community of peers. The aim of WCS is to inspire collaboration, friendship, solidarity, and to create public awareness and engagement.
Since its founding in 1996, the Women Center Stage Festival has grown into a preeminent presenter of powerful art created by womxn. This coming year will mark the festival’s 25th anniversary.

This week I am celebrating 1-year anniversary since my Liver Transplant surgery.

Please help me reach my goal. Every donation counts.
..On May 15 I have celebrated the 1-year anniversary of my successful liver transplant. I received a letter from the mother of my donor. It was powerfully moving... The donor had siblings, a daughter, and two sons. I have a mandate to make something that matters with the gift of life I have been given. Thank you all much for helping me this far but my healing and my hopes are far from over. It was not until after New Years that I could begin to get around. In February I had to leave dinner with Samantha Power and Scott Delman before the main course was served because I was unable to endure the pain of sitting for more than an hour.

In mid-may, I went to an evening of theater, an evening of poetry, and a late-night office meeting all in 10 days. It felt so good to be alive once again. I experienced so much hope...
..So I stand before you asking for your support of a dream that will fulfill all of us. Surviving 5 surgeries was a mere lesson in overcoming obstacles. For me to face this moment of truth I cannot rebuild without the resources to meet the bare minimum,
a shared space from which to work, a part-time assistant to prepare proposals and help with correspondence, and a social media intern. I will need help just for the next 3 months when outside support will begin to kick in. Please help turn our 25th year into a new beginning."

Letter from Culture Project's Founder and Creative Director - Allan Buchman:

Dear Friends,

On Tuesday I met with my liver doctor and my test results were so good that she felt she doesn't have to see me for 2 months. However, the surgeon who performed my transplant advised that I am at considerable risk with my hernia condition that could dangerously incarcerate my intestines.
As some of you may know more than 25 years ago I was diagnosed with Hep C. Luckily, I spent most of these years asymptomatic.

When I became in need of a liver transplant, my doctors explained to me the chances of getting the liver and how accepting a liver from a larger pool (from Hep C infected donors) would save my life. I would like to mention that receiving a liver through this channel was possible under Barack Obama’s Hope Act.

I was also advised that Hep C can be very successfully treated by recently approved medication. This medication costs an astounding 1000.00 per pill. FORTUNATELY, instead of a total cost of $90,000 my share will be less than $500 and will start the treatment regimen on August 7.

My overall health is vastly improved. The last barrier - mobility obstructing and pain-inducing hernia will be addressed this month.

My ability to participate a in wage-earning activity has been delayed but the vision I have for Culture Project is grand - a truly productive, transformative and impactful future will not be denied. Help me to hang in there by hanging in there with me.

Thank you for caring. Every kind thought, every donation, and every interaction with you means a world to me.

Love,
Allan
