Dear Asian American mental health professionals, students, and those considering the field:

As co-chair of the New York Coalition for Asian American Mental Health (NYCAAMH)'s Professional Development Group, I wanted to reach out to let you know more about our upcoming events. During these times of uncertainty and unprecedented events, NYCAAMH aims to continue to serve as a support to Asian/Asian American, Pacific Islander, Desi-American identified mental health professionals, including students and new practitioners in the field.

Briefly, NYCAAMH’s mission is to address the unmet mental health care needs and service disparities of the Asian American population through advocacy, community service, professional development, and collaboration with government and local service providers.

Please pass on our information to your school community. If you or any student in your program is interested in getting involved, come join us! Membership is free , and there are several ways to be a part of NYCAAMH.

Upcoming Events:
● NYCAAMH Meet & Greet (click to RSVP) on October 29th, 7pm-8pm
● Self-Compassion Workshop, November (date TBD)
● Intro to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, December (date TBD)

Additionally, we have ongoing biweekly Virtual Peer Supervisions on Saturdays at 7pm. During this peer-based group supervision, APIDA mental health professionals center discussions around adapting to changes during the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating race-based interactions, discussing clinical challenges, and dealing with stress and trauma in the workplace and the community.

Because NYCAAMH is a volunteer- and member-driven organization, we also invite those interested in shaping our future initiatives to attend our biweekly Planning and Organizing Committee meetings on Saturdays at 8pm.

To attend either of the recurring meetings, please email us at [email protected]. The links to the events are also regularly posted on our NYCAAMH Facebook grou p and our website .

If you have any questions, have ideas to partner with us on, or want to explore ways to get involved, please do not hesitate to contact us as well. We look forward to hearing from you and your students.

Thank you!

A few weeks ago, I posted that an amazing social worker and friend, My-Lan Tran, died after a heroic battle with an illness. Her employer, Roberta, reached out to me because My-Lan's job at the Hospital for Special Surgery is vacant, and (of course) there are big shoes to fill. However, if you are interested in becoming a social work manager at HSS, please see the job posting below. It means a lot to me (and Roberta).

It is with tremendous sadness that I share that My-Lan Tran passed away on Saturday, April 6th. My-Lan and I co-created and then led the Asian American Social Workers Task Force in the early 2000s and in its revitalized form in 2010. She was an extremely passionate, intelligent, and tenacious woman, and she will be missed.
