Every technology arrives with a story about progress, but what actually determines who it serves is who owns it and who has power over how it’s used.

AI isn’t automating work so much as automating extraction. Landlords use it to coordinate rent increases. Insurers use it to deny claims. Bosses use it to threaten jobs long before it can do them. The costs land on tenants, workers, and communities; the returns go to a handful of Big Tech companies.
There are a lot of answers on the table: Bernie’s sovereign wealth fund, worker bargaining rights over deployment, data centers moratoriums, banning the worst uses of AI outright. We want to have the discussion about which ones matter most.

Thursday 8/20, 6:30pm at Chilo’s in Bed-Stuy (323 Franklin Ave): A panel on what socialists should demand, from artists fighting AI slop to teachers organizing to protect their jobs and their students’ education.
