Every other wealthy democracy guarantees healthcare to its citizens. Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, France. The U.S. is the outlier among peer nations.
Here’s the math: administrative overhead, drug pricing and hospital billing in the U.S. aren’t capped or negotiated the way they are in countries with national systems. That drives costs most other systems avoid.
The debate over why the U.S. hasn’t adopted a universal system is real and worth having on the merits, not with a label. When “socialism” gets used as a stopper instead of an argument, it shuts down a conversation about results people actually experience: cost, coverage, outcomes.
Other countries figured out how to cover everyone. We can have that conversation here too.
