20 years ago today, we lost Willi Ninja — a visionary dancer, choreographer, icon, and trailblazer whose legacy continues to live on through generations.
From the ballroom floor to the global stage, Willi transformed movement into a language of self-expression, power, and possibility. He helped bring voguing and ballroom culture into the cultural zeitgeist while creating space for LGBTQ+ people — especially Black and Latinx q***r and trans communities — to be seen, celebrated, and unapologetically themselves.
As we mark 20 years since his passing, we honor not only Willi’s extraordinary artistry, but the legacy he helped build: a world where our chosen families, our creativity, our identities, and our lives are worthy of celebration.
