Bowen Center CEO Amber Shah and NYC Council Member and Chair of the Council Finance Committee Council Member Linda Lee were in attendance to celebrate leadership in action at the InUnity Alliance Leadership Awards, where Council Member Lee was among the honorees.

A true champion for mental health on the City Council, CM Lee played a key role in restoring critical funding for community-based Clubhouses, including our Rainbow Clubhouse, ensuring these vital programs continue to support New Yorkers on their path to recovery.

Her leadership focuses on strengthening and expanding access to essential, community-based services, from addiction treatment and youth programming to comprehensive support for older adults...so New Yorkers at every stage of life can access the care they need.

Our thanks to our longtime partner Mutual of America for inviting Amber as their guest!

Honoring a legacy that continues to shape lives across New York City.

We were proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring Emma L. Bowen—a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to community, compassion, and service laid the foundation for the Bowen Center and continues to inspire our work today.

The proclamation, put forward by NYC Council Majority leader Shaun Abreu, recognized Mrs. Bowen’s enduring impact on Harlem and the generations of New Yorkers who have benefited from her work.

From her early days organizing in Harlem to building a trusted, community-based institution, her influence continues to be felt through the thousands of individuals and families who rely on the Bowen Center’s continuum of services, including mental health care, addiction treatment, and supportive services.

This moment was not just about recognizing history—it was about reaffirming a mission that lives on every day through our dedicated staff, partners, and especially our clients, who carry her vision forward.

Thank you to our elected officials, community leaders, and supporters who joined us in celebrating a true trailblazer.
