We’re still buzzing from last night’s Urban Pathways 2024 Light the Path Gala! With over 300 guests, we celebrated the determination and resilience of our neighbors overcoming homelessness and laid the groundwork to offer even more support to those in need.

We are thrilled to share that our supporters’ dedication and generosity shone brightly, raising over $755,000 to support Urban Pathways’ vital mission. These funds will pave the way for even greater strides in providing housing, support services, and pathways to stability for those navigating the complexities of homelessness.

Last night, each story shared echoed our dedication to illuminating a brighter future for those we serve. As we reflect on the success of the evening, we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who champions our mission. Your compassion and generosity is a testament to the power of community, and the change we can make together for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness!

On this final day of , we honor Charles Rangel, a commanding advocate for economic and housing policies which continue to aid our neighbors experiencing homelessness to this day. A New York native, Rangel was the first Black Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means and was the architect behind the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.

When reflecting on his time in office, Rangel shared: "Thank God I never had to decide between doing the right thing or being defeated at the polls."

The number of people staying in New York City’s municipal shelter system has reached an all-time high.

According to City Limits’ shelter count tracker, the daily count of NYC’s Department of Homeless Services shelters jumped from 46,591 individuals in Jan 2022 to 68,781 in Jan 2023. These numbers don’t include individuals staying in the City’s three other agencies: the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the Human Resources Administration.

These rising counts underscore the immediacy of addressing the homelessness crisis, as well as the necessity of organizations like Urban Pathways which work to create permanent, sustainable solutions.
