A Map for a Megaregion

I created the New York & New Jersey Subway Map to give the NYC region a comprehensive map that includes all rapid transit services, regardless of operator, just like the maps in peer cities like Berlin, London, Philadelphia, and Tokyo.

It is based on the design of the official New York Subway Map, which influences the transit choices of over 2.4 billion riders, and has a long history of including New Jersey, as well as other transit options that supplement the subway, but the current map doesn’t include all options that serve the city and its immediate environs.

Comprehensive transit maps, apps, and websites are essential to the transit user experience, because they frame how we think about getting around, and can influence whether we choose transit options that reduce stress, ease congestion and pollution, and increase safety for everyone.
