Democratic Socialists of America

Democratic Socialists of America A chapter based political and activist organization promoting US democratic socialism. DSA's political perspective is called "Where We Stand."

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. DSA's members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly democratic socialist presence in American communities and politics. At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. As we are unlikely to see an immediate end to c

apitalism tomorrow, DSA fights for reforms today that will weaken the power of corporations and increase the power of working people. For example, we support reforms that:

- decrease the influence of money in politics

- empower ordinary people in workplaces and the economy

- restructure gender and cultural relationships to be more equitable. We are activists committed to democracy as not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision democratic socialism — a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society. On our website you can find out about DSA, its politics, structure and program. It says, in part:

We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. DSA has a youth section, Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA). Made up of students from colleges and high schools, the Youth Section works on economic justice and democracy and prison justice projects. It is a member of the International Union of Socialist Youth, an affiliate of the Socialist International. The Youth Section meets several times during the year. Please join DSA as we work to help build a better and more just world for all.

Last weekend, DSA’s National Political Committee met in St. Louis and got to meet while cheering on Team Bosnia before the World Cup!

It was great to hear directly how Cori and her team are campaigning for a comeback in Congress to build working class power against AIPAC & corporate interests, stand up together against all genocides, and how is throwing down to support.

We got to talk about our national DSA Workers Deserve More platform, and how we’re organizing to support working class champions with our national endorsements. Stay tuned for more! 🌹

Detainees at Delaney Hall detention center are on a hunger strike. We stand in solidarity with them and all people unjustly incarcerated in inhumane detention camps across the country. Illegal kidnappings and horrific conditions aside, people don’t belong in cages. We must end this system.

Visit north.dsanj.org/delaney to follow our New Jersey chapters as they organize with their neighbors on the ground in New Jersey. Abolish ICE!

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Louisiana v. Callais strips communities of color of the right to political representation, opening the door for further racist disenfranchisement.

Socialists have a long history of fighting to build and defend Black political power, recognizing that the struggle for Black liberation is central to any real expansion of democracy and working-class power. DSA is committed to this fight to dismantle white supremacist capitalism — taking it head-on at the ballot box, in our workplaces, and in the streets.

Congratulations to Tammy Carpenter for winning her election to Oregon House District 27! Tammy will fight alongside to fully fund public schools, win universal healthcare and establish a Renters’ Bill of Rights.

This victory wouldn’t be possible without the incredible work of Portland DSA members and Democratic Socialists across the country. If you feel inspired by Tammy and other socialist candidates, join us at dsausa.org/join 🌹
