Finns know Eliel Saarinen through Helsinki’s iconic Central Railway Station, the National Museum of Finland and Hvitträsk. But who would have imagined that he would also become such a defining figure in American modern architecture?

During his visit to Columbus, Indiana, Consul General Jarmo Sareva toured four Saarinen-designed landmarks with Landmark Columbus Foundation.

The tour revealed an extraordinary father-and-son legacy, from Eliel Saarinen’s First Christian Church (1942), one of America’s first truly modern churches, to Eero Saarinen’s Irwin Union Bank (1954), Miller House (1957), and North Christian Church (1964). Together, these four buildings demonstrate the remarkable vision of two generations of Finnish architects whose influence continues to shape both Columbus and the history of modern architecture.

The inscription recognises the international significance of Aalto’s contribution to modern architecture. Aalto's work is known for its human-centred approach and close connection to the surrounding environment.

We’re so proud of the talented young Finns at The Juilliard School 🎻🗽

Helsinki-based sisters Senny Herler (19) and Ellen Herler (15) were selected for the prestigious Juilliard Summer Music Program. Senny (violinist) and Ellen (violist) both study violin at the Uniarts Sibelius Academy Youth Department, with Senny also enrolled at the East Helsinki Music Institute.

“Being selected for Juilliard’s Summer Music Program is an incredible opportunity for us as two young musician sisters from Finland. Throughout the program, we will experience conservatory-level training at one of the world’s leading music schools.

We will have the chance to work with Juilliard’s faculty, participate in masterclasses, and perform at the world-renowned Lincoln Center.

The best part, however, is getting to know so many talented young musicians from around the world and becoming part of an inspiring community united by a shared passion for music.

Experiencing life on the Juilliard campus is also something truly special—waking up every morning to the view of Central Park is an experience you don’t get every day.” 💙🤍💙🤍

To celebrate the USA’s 250th birthday, the Nordic Consulates General in New York traced the Nordic influences that shaped New York City into what it is today. From Swedish settlers to Danish artists and Finnish neighborhoods to Norwegian construction, we are proud to have been part of the rich cultural tapestry that makes up one of the most exciting cities in the world.
