District Council 1707 proudly represents the hard-working child care, head start, day care, direct care, and social workers of New York City. Founded in 1932 as the Independent Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, they proudly and prominently fought for labor equality in NYC and by 1973 they had overwhelming support to reorganize as a District Council for AFSCME, the largest municipal employees

representative in the country. Now DC 1707 consists of Local 95, 107, 205, 215, 253, and 389 representing thousands of employees across the 5 boroughs and Long Island. DC 1707 stands tall as a labor leader in NYC and fights for the interests of working families!
