Civic Engagement in the Era of New Media One Movement, Many People Everything from revolutions to the environment and health is shaped by how we connect, document, and change our lives. to 8 p.m.

One of the most pressing questions of our time is how we can join together using social media and digital tools and content to shape public policy. The 2011 New York Life Symposium, on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, is dedicated to exploring these questions in an interactive forum. Professionally planned, developed, and hosted by the fellows of Colin Powell Program in Leadership and Public Service, Ci

vic Engagement in the Era of New Media, will examine the potential for greater collective action, community building and organization as well as the diffusion of power and sources of information that come with the rise of new media. Additionally, the symposium will offer conversation with community organizers and practitioners in the field of new media. Case studies will offer practical tips and tools about implementing digital and social media for causes and organizations. Join Center fellows, panelists, and moderator Farai Chideya, to explore the challenges to the integration of media activism and direct civic engagement. The event will be held from 5 p.m. at the Gatehouse (150 Convent Avenue at 135th Street. A reception will follow offering opportunities to mix and mingle with people from a cross-section of fields and endeavors.
