“The passage of this Resolution sends a clear message that the City of Atlanta will always stand for equality and human dignity—regardless of who you are or who you love,” said Mayor Bottoms. “State-sanctioned practices that inflict persecution and suffering on LGBTQ individuals—particularly young people—should end immediately. Simply put—we cannot and should not endanger the well-being of the LGBTQ community for living their truth. This administration and the City respectfully calls on our State partners to join us on the right side of history."

We THANK YOU Keisha Lance Bottoms and the Atlanta City Council!

Some amazing things happened yesterday across our nation and we cannot be disheartened:

We regained a majority for LGBTQ equality and acceptance in the U.S. House of Representatives, giving us our first opportunity to put this Administration in check, protect the progress we have made, and move forward an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would provide explicit anti-nondiscrimination protections for women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, and those with disabilities.

We returned out U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin to Washington, DC to represent Wisconsin for another term.

We helped Colorado become the first state to elect an openly gay man as Governor, and elected the nation’s first out Native American member of Congress in Kansas.
And we made history in Massachusetts by passing the first statewide popular referendum in support of transgender Americans.

But yesterday is about more than just the sum of our victories. All across the country we demonstrated that you can try to erase us, but we will come back stronger.
