Residents at St. Anselm joined an engaging nutrition workshop sponsored by BronxWorks, where participants shared their own cultural perspectives on food while learning how to build balanced meals using the USDA MyPlate model.

The workshop also included a tomato bruschetta demonstration and tasting, giving residents a chance to try the recipe and share their feedback. Participants went home with educational nutrition plates and placemats provided by BronxWorks, and St. Anselm wrapped up the event with a gift card raffle!

In New York City, the 2026 Area Median Income for a family is $152,700*. Yet nearly 78% of the families served by Nazareth Housing in 2026 live on less than $45,810 a year.

That gap underscores just how critical our work is. Every day, we help New Yorkers facing financial hardship access the resources, stability, and support they need to remain safely housed and build a more secure future.

Knowing the children in our Nazareth Housing community are starting school today with everything they need—from backpacks and pencils to notebooks and more—is why we do what we do. 🎒✏️

We’re here for our clients throughout the year, helping them navigate moments of financial hardship so they can focus on what matters most, housing stability. None of this would be possible without the generosity and dedication of our supporters, volunteers, partners, and staff. 💙

Hannah George, our Food Security and Community Engagement Coordinator, recently led a nutrition workshop for Haven Plaza tenants and community members focused on cholesterol and heart-healthy eating.

Participants learned how fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and other high-fiber foods can support healthy cholesterol levels, along with simple ways to add more fiber to everyday meals.

To put it into practice, Hannah demonstrated how to make peach overnight oats, and everyone got to taste a batch she prepared ahead of time! 🍑🥣

A big thank you to Assembly Member Keith Powers for stopping by Louise’s Pantry on the Lower East Side on September 1!

We appreciated him taking the time to chat with our clients and help hand out food during pantry hours. It’s always great to welcome local leaders into our spaces to see our work in action and connect with the community.

We had a great time at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln's Back to School Health Fest last week!

Families enjoyed back-to-school giveaways, face painting, raffle prizes, cotton candy, ice cream, and more. Our team from Park Avenue Thorpe was there to share Nazareth Housing’s resources and connect with community members looking for help accessing our food pantry and rental arrears assistance.

Thank you to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln for bringing the community together for such a fun and resource-filled day!

Hannah George, Food Security and Community Engagement Coordinator, led a wonderful group of 4 children, 20 seniors, and 2 adults on a trip to the Union Square Farmers Market. Each participant received 4 Health Bucks ($8 total) to purchase fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables.

The group was excited to discover great deals and seasonal favorites, including cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, squash, and lettuce. One of the highlights was discovering the farmers market’s secret sale section, where the group found a great selection of fresh produce!

These events are a great way to help clients access fresh, healthy food while connecting with their community.

Last week, Hannah George, Food Security and Community Engagement Coordinator, and Kiania Colon, Homelessness Prevention Coordinator, joined Harlem Community Justice Center's 5th Annual Housing Justice Resource Fair at the beautiful Art Park in Harlem.

It was a great opportunity to connect with community members, share our resources, and build relationships with other organizations for potential partnerships. We also connected with residents interested in our eviction prevention services and food pantry.
