General information
We move forward with five pillars for progress: 1. Energy is a global concern and mankind confronts some enormous challenges in this vital sector of life and development; 2. The growth rates in many developing countries will inevitably push up global energy demand; 3. Significant private sector investment will be necessary to effectively respond to the need of new technological research and deployment; 4. Energy consumption will need to be reconciled with sustainable growth, if we are to meaningfully tackle the grave challenges posed by greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. 5. It is against such a background that fundamental socio-economic choices will have to be made, in the coming years, which will impact upon our daily life. We believe that the challenge ahead is to design a sustainable energy future, one which guarantees energy security, while respecting human well-being and protecting our environment, one that does not jeopardize development prospects or other fundamental aspects of human security.
