Rising Ground

Driven by the belief that each of us can thrive when life has hope and opportunity, Rising Ground provides caring support and proven paths to positive change, helping children, adults, and families rise above adversity. Rising Ground envisions a future for New York where every child has an equal opportunity to succeed; where vulnerable individuals and families have the resources and support they need; where people with disabilities can access opportunity and fully participate in their communities; and where all are supported as they navigate life’s challenges and positively direct their lives.

“Why do people find out about resources when they’re in crisis?”

She’s right. Too many people don’t know help exists until they’re already in the middle of needing it.

So consider this us telling you now, before the crisis. Rising Ground is here. Housing support, family services, community resources, all of it exists for you or someone you know, whenever you need it. Click the link in bio for ways to support or get connected to services.

Mr. Bronner will tell you he knows Brooklyn like the back of his hand. Ask him anything about the borough and he’s got a story, a shortcut, a memory. He’s lively, he’s warm, and he has a spirit that fills up a room.

So when an eye surgery didn’t go the way it was supposed to, and he found himself unsure of what came next.

His doctor connected him to a Rising Ground health navigator, a social worker who didn’t just point him in a direction and walk away. She stayed with him, connected him to his options of care, and helped him navigate a moment in his life he didn’t see coming.

Mr. Bronner in Brooklyn

Mr. Bronner spoke to us about finding Rising Ground in a doctor's office. After an eye surgery that didn't go well - found himself needing more support. That's where we come in. Click the link to hear more about Mr. Bronner's story.

Me before the youth conference:
Nervous, in preparation
Me after:
Standing in front of my family, my friends and city staff talking about mental health, consent and intersectionality like I’ve been doing this my whole life.

Our young people didn’t just attend in a conference. They built one they picked the topics. They ran the groups. They presented to a room full of people who came to listen because they had something to say.

This is what happens when you hand young people the Mike and trust them with it so proud of every single one of them.

Riley is a student in Rising Ground's youth programming. He joined after a guidance counselor at his school recommended the program, one conversation that pointed him toward something he didn't realize would have such an impact.

Since then, Riley says the biggest impact has been what the organization has taught him about himself. He's learned things about who he is and what he cares about that he might not have found on his own.

His story reflects something we see across this city. People rarely find Rising Ground through advertising. They find us through someone who already knows us, a teacher, a counselor, a neighbor, who recognizes when a young person could use a place like this.
For 195 years, that pattern has held true, and it continues because of the people and partners who support this work.

Ryely is a student in our youth programming. He joined after a guidance counselor at his school recommended the program, one conversation that pointed him toward something he didn’t realize would have such an impact.

Since then, Ryely says the biggest impact has been what the organization has taught him about himself. He’s learned things about who he is and what he cares about that he might not have found on his own.

His story is another example of how people find Rising Ground, through someone in his own school who knew where to send him.

Watch Ryely share it in his own words. 🎥

This is what the web of care looks like up close. A guidance counselor, a recommendation, and a young person who found more than he expected.
