Today, the Council held its Stated Meeting advancing legislation to:

✅ Co-name 26 thoroughfares and public places with commemorative titles honoring the memory of the September 11 attacks. Sponsored by Speaker Julie Menin

✅ Require DOT to post advance notice signs at least 48 hours before disruptive street work begins, including contractor contact info, project dates, and details on the work. Sponsored by Council Member Harvey Epstein

✅ Establish illuminance limits on outdoor lighting fixtures for one- and two-family homes in low-density residential districts. Sponsored by Phil Wong

The Council secured $1 million in funding to send NYC students on FREE field trips to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum — so the nearly 3,000 lives lost, and the heroism shown that day, stay in the hearts and minds of every New Yorker.

A first grader waiting for his aunt to return, a home care nurse watching it unfold on TV — these are some of the memories brought back when Council Members visited the 9/11 Museum and Memorial.

Last week the Council announced $1 million to fund free school field trips for students to the museum, to help keep these and other 9/11 stories alive for the next generation.
