This past Friday, Community Board 12-Manhattan joined local elected officials and community leaders to denounce the events that took place on Dyckman Street this past Sunday following the Dominican Day Parade.
A large group of young people from outside the city came to our community to celebrate. What was intended as a celebration ultimately resulted in a tragic death and significant damage to private property.

Dyckman is a cultural hub, known citywide as an emblem of culture. It is also a reflection of a community that comes together, looks out for one another, and takes pride in its neighborhood.

After receiving information about the potential repeat of an unpermitted “planned takeover” in our community today, a meeting was convened with local stakeholders and city agencies. We are working together and have a plan in place to prepare for the influx of young people expected in the area and, most importantly, to help ensure the safety of our residents, businesses, and visitors.

Thank you to CM Carmen De La Rosa for organizing the press conference and to all of our elected officials Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal Adriano Espaillat State Senator Robert Jackson Assemblyman Manny De Los Santos, MSW (he/him/el) Assemblyman Al Taylor community leaders, and city agencies for coming together to address this issue. Our community deserves to celebrate its culture while also protecting the safety and well-being of everyone who lives, works, and visits here.

Traffic Advisory: Westbound One-Way Conversion on W. 187th Street

Beginning August 6, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) NYC DOT will begin work to convert W. 187th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Laurel Hill Terrace to a westbound one-way street.

This work is part of DOT's ongoing street improvement project to install traffic and pedestrian safety enhancements along Amsterdam Avenue between Laurel Hill Terrace and W. 188th Street, helping create safer streets for everyone.

Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we honor the end of slavery in the United States and celebrate the resilience, contributions, and rich history of Black Americans. Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our past, celebrate freedom, and recommit ourselves to building a more just and inclusive future.

Community Board 12 wishes everyone a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth! Please join us tomorrow for the Juneteenth celebration block party on 163rd street between Edgecombe and Amsterdam Avenue from 1-8pm.

Hoy honramos el fin de la esclavitud en los Estados Unidos y celebramos la resiliencia, las contribuciones y la rica historia de los afroamericanos. Earlier this month, Community Board 12 was proud to join our neighbors and community partners in helping clean and beautify our neighborhood!
 
A special thank you to 🐾Abby🐾 ,Julie ,for organizing this wonderful community cleanup and bringing everyone together for a shared effort to keep Uptown looking its best. It was inspiring to see so many residents come out and show their love for our community through action.
 
We also want to thank David Clarke for joining us, documenting the day, and capturing these great photos that highlight the spirit of volunteerism and community pride.
 
Together, we can make a difference—one block at a time. We look forward to participating in many more community cleanups in the future!

This Saturday, June 20th, come celebrate freedom, culture, resilience, and community at the Juneteenth Block Party on 163rd Street between Edgecombe Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865—the day enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is a day to honor the struggles, achievements, and enduring contributions of Black Americans while reflecting on the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.

Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for an afternoon of community, celebration, and togetherness. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Join CB12's Housing and Human Services Committee tonight as HPD presents on a new housing development coming to Inwood. The 9th Avenue development called La Ostra is slated to produce around 400 Affordable Units and 200 units for seniors. The project will also include a state-of-the art new STEM Center!
