📸

🇷🇴 The Romanian Cultural Institute is pleased to recommend "Marked for More", an immersive photography exhibition and awareness campaign that brings to New York City the powerful stories of orphaned and abandoned youth aging out of foster care in post-communist Romania.

🖼️ Created by The Social Incubator USA , a leading social impact organization supporting vulnerable youth in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and photographed by acclaimed Romanian artist Alex Gâlmeanu, the exhibition explores identity, resilience, memory, and belonging through a deeply personal lens. For the young people portrayed, tattoos become more than body art—they are acts of authorship, carrying memories, hopes, losses, and the determination to build a future against all odds.

🌍 For decades, Romania's orphanages were known internationally through images that shaped perceptions around the world. "Marked for More" invites audiences to look beyond those narratives and encounter a new generation of young adults whose lives are defined not by stigma, but by resilience, dignity, and the courage to move forward.

📚 A Memorable Evening with Tatiana Țîbuleac, Monica Cure, and Raluca Albu at Rizzoli Bookstore, New York, Celebrating the Final Stop of the North American Book Launch Tour of "The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes"

✨ Last Thursday, June 4, readers gathered at Rizzoli Bookstore in New York City for the final event of the North American book launch tour of "The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes", celebrating Tatiana Țîbuleac’s acclaimed novel and its English-language publication by Deep Vellum in Monica Cure’s extraordinary translation. The evening brought together American literature lovers, members of the Romanian and Moldovan communities, and friends of contemporary world literature for a memorable conclusion to a remarkable literary journey across the United States.

🎙️ The conversation featured Tatiana Țîbuleac, Monica Cure, and Raluca Albu, Online Editor at BOMB Magazine, whose thoughtful moderation created a dynamic and engaging dialogue. Together, they explored the novel’s emotional depth, its exploration of memory, grief, forgiveness, and reconciliation, as well as the challenges and rewards of bringing such a distinctive literary voice to English-language readers.

📖 Tatiana reflected on the creative process behind "The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes", sharing insights into the personal and artistic questions that shaped one of the most celebrated novels in contemporary Romanian-language literature. Monica Cure offered a fascinating perspective on the work of literary translation, discussing how she approached the novel’s lyrical intensity, emotional complexity, and unique narrative voice in order to make it accessible to a new audience while preserving its power and authenticity.

📰 Raluca Albu guided the discussion with insight and sensitivity, opening space for a rich exchange about literature, translation, cultural identity, and the growing visibility of Eastern European voices in the American literary landscape. We are also delighted to share that BOMB Magazine will soon publish a feature dedicated to Tatiana Țîbuleac, further introducing her work to readers across the United States.

💬 The audience contributed to the evening’s exceptional atmosphere through thoughtful questions, personal reflections, and genuine enthusiasm. The conversation continued well beyond the formal discussion, demonstrating the profound connection that the novel has established with readers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

🤝 We were deeply honored by the presence of H.E. Gheorghe Leucă, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, whose attendance highlighted the important role of cultural diplomacy in promoting our literature and fostering international cultural dialogue.

🙏 Our sincere thanks go to Rizzoli Bookstore for hosting this wonderful event, to Raluca Albu for moderating such a stimulating conversation, and to everyone who joined us for this special evening. As the final stop of the North American book launch tour of "The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes", the New York event offered a fitting conclusion to a series of inspiring encounters that brought Tatiana Țîbuleac’s work to readers across the United States.
