Supreme Court rejects case that would limit trans students’ rights 🥳🧑‍⚖️

On Monday, SCOTUS rejected a forced outing case that has been ongoing for the last 5 years - ending the case for good 📚

In 2021, the Littlejohn’s sued their school district in Florida for “forcing” their child to be trans. This was part of the inspiration for DeSantis’s 2022 “Don’t Say Gay” Law. The SCOTUS decision to reject the appeal and therefore side with the school district sets an important precedent.

First-of-its-kind LGBTQ-centered safe house open in Massachusetts 💗⚧️🥳

Anemoni, the first q***r and trans peer respite in the world, opened last April and has supported more than 79 individuals since then.

Especially for trans and q***r people, mental health care for those experiencing significant distress is often carceral and transphobic. Anemoni takes a person-centered approach and is an alternative space for trans and q***r folks experiencing mental-health emergencies. They also offer post-surgical stays for up to one month 🙏

All people deserve care that centers their humanity, as we know so well at Trinity Place Shelter! Who’s starting a NY Anemoni?! 👀

We are so grateful for for coming and giving our home a Spring sprucing 🌷🧹🌱🫟

So many wonderful volunteers came to Trinity Place Shelter and cleaned, cooked, painted, organized, and rejuvenated our space! It is incredibly meaningful for folks to pour into our residents home the way they deserve.

Courts support trans people in multiple rulings 🧑‍⚖️🎊🏳️‍⚧️
In Minnesota, in Montana, and in an appeals court - there have been multiple rulings this week that are worth celebrating 👀

⚖️ In Minnesota, there has been an ongoing case related to trans youth playing on the sports team aligned with their gender and a federal appeals court ruled in favor of trans athletes this week.
⚖️ The Supreme Court of Montana ruled that trans Montanan’s have the right to have their legal documents accurately reflect their gender.
⚖️ An appeals court rejected Trump’s attempt to revive his executive order targeting healthcare for trans folks under the age of 19.

First Black trans-owned bookstore in the Hudson Valley may open soon 📖🏳️‍⚧️🥳

awa-moon young-scott barnett is raising money to open the first Black trans-owned mobile bookshop and community education center in the Hudson Valley, NY. Awa shares in the fundraiser that, “This bookshop will be a haven for collective growth: hosting literary salons, writing workshops, peer-led groups, protest prep and mutual-aid fundraisers. It will prioritize disability justice, honor Indigenous knowledge, nurture the youth, support working-class movements and uplift Black, trans, and q***r voices.”

Keith Haring was a q***r artist and activist who made art to bring awareness to the AIDS crisis, promote safer s*x practices, and uplift q***rness ❤️🧑‍🎨

🗞️ The largest medical group in the U.S. reaffirmed their support for gender affirming care 🎉

The American Medical Association (AMA) reaffirmed their support for gender affirming care after some recent controversy 🙏🩺
In February, in a meeting with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) announced they were changing their stance on gender-affirming care for people under the age of 19 (even though surgical interventions are incredibly rare for trans minors). The AMA’s response to the ASPS statement led some to believe they were in agreement with ASPS but in March they made clear that their policy is not changing and they want to preserve access to gender-affirming care.

We celebrate when organizations like the AMA and AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) affirm their support for the gender-affirming care so many of our young people need to survive ❤️

At the end of March, the UN rejected a U.S. effort to erase trans women 🙏

At the UN’s annual Commission on the Status of Women, the U.S. introduced a resolution for the UN to define gender as referring only to “men and women.” 23 countries voted to block the proposal and 17 abstained.

While the U.S. becomes an increasingly unsafe place for trans people, especially trans youth, it is even more important to fight loudly for trans liberation.

Trinity’s Place provides a safe haven for q***r and trans youth who are experiencing homelessness in NYC. 1 in 4 trans youth, age 18 - 25, experience homelessness. At our shelter, we witness every day the strength, brilliance, and resilience of trans youth—and we know without question that trans people deserve not just safety, but the full possibility of thriving ❤️

We appreciate the support that all of you provide that enables us to keep caring for our trans residents.
