New York Common Pantry’s Live Healthy! program hosted Chinese Recipe Club, where participants came together to learn how to prepare a colorful and delicious vegetable noodle soup.

The soup was made with a flavorful chicken or vegetable broth seasoned with garlic and scallions and filled with spinach, yellow corn, carrots, mushrooms, and rice noodles. This delicious soup is packed with nutrient-dense vegetables that provide vitamin K, vitamin A, and folate.

September is Hunger Action Month and with back-to-school season in session, we are reminded of the startling statistic that 1 in 4 NYC children face food insecurity. What should be an exciting time for our guests and their children can come with the additional financial burden of checking off a growing back-to-school list. This might mean making difficult choices.

Over the past few weeks as families have come to pick up their groceries and hot meals, we’ve distributed new backpacks and shoes. Together, we're helping families check items off their back-to-school supply list and giving children the confidence to start a new school year ready to learn.

We will continue to serve children and their families nutritious meals and groceries to get them through the school day. With your help, we can build a NYC without childhood hunger.

Will you make a gift to support NYC families?

We’re thrilled to share why our runners are joining Team NYCP this year to run against hunger. 💙

Mike was inspired by his grandmother, a dietitian who dedicated her life to serving seniors and underserved populations which taught Mike that access to basic necessities, especially nutritious food, is essential to dignity, health, and the ability to build a better life.

Mike has volunteered at the Pantry alongside his colleagues from PIMCO and has lived in New York City for nearly two decades. He feels a deep connection to this community and a responsibility to give back.

We’re so grateful to Mike for running for . Thank you, Mike! 🙌
