What a day in New Dorp! The 11th Annual New Dorp Lane District Restaurant Food Festival brought an afternoon of delicious food, live entertainment, and plenty of fun to 1000+ attendees on Sunday.

Guests enjoyed tastings from local restaurants, music and entertainment from Merge Event Solutions, and activities throughout the afternoon. Koltuk’s Honey and Lady Optical also joined us as vendors, adding to the festivities.

A special thank you to SIEDC, Council Member David Carr, Food Festival Chair Maria Carrozza, and the New Dorp BID for their continued support, as well as the NYPD 122nd Precinct for helping keep the afternoon safe and enjoyable. Most of all, thank you to all of the participating restaurants and everyone who came out to enjoy the festival and support New Dorp’s local businesses. The 11th Annual Food Festival was one to remember, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

The 2026 New Dorp Restaurant Stroll was a huge success. So many came out to enjoy this movable feast along New Dorp Lane and Plaza, and I want thank our partners at SIEDC, the New Dorp Business Improvement District, and the local merchants as well as my team for making this event such a great one each and every year. What a great night at the Greek Festival at Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church tonight! Thank you to the community for hosting such a wonderful celebration of Greek culture.

Today, we co-named the corner of Victory Boulevard and Richmond Avenue after George A. Karidis. George was a pillar of the Greek community here in and at Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. He was an active and caring man that responded as a worker for Con Ed to help alongside so many in the weeks after 9/11 and unfortunately, contracted an illness related to that service. George represents the best of our City and earned this distinction by the way he lived his life. May we always remember him.

It was my honor to attend the memorial Mass and luncheon for FDNY Rescue 5 today. They endured so much on that fateful days 25 years ago, and they became a family that now spans generations. God bless their sacrifice, and may we always celebrate their memory and heroism!

“Never Forget” is not just an empty slogan – it is a promise to always remember the 2,977 people who were killed by terrorists, the more than 9,400 who have died and the many more who suffer from Ground Zero-related illnesses, and the countless heroes who answered the call on that horrific day 25 years ago. Co-naming streets at these important sites will ensure that Staten Island continues to keep that promise, and that the legacy of Sept. 11 will be honored for many generations to come.

City Council Minority Leader David Carr, Majority Whip Kamillah Hanks and Councilman Frank Morano introduced the measure.
