Edward R. Murrow HS was the first of to participate in the Cafeteria Enhancement Experience. NYC has invested over $150 million to transform cafeterias in all five boroughs to be more welcoming places for students to enjoy lunch and socialize. Thanks to the CEE redesign at Edward R. Murrow and in response to student feedback, the updated service has increased the variety of food offered, improved accessibility, and increased student engagement. Now, 266% more students are eating school meals — that’s 2,200 every day!

Policy was on the menu for students at Food and Finance High School! MOFP Executive Director Kate MacKenzie joined students in Mr. Johnson’s economics class for 2026. Students explored the connection between food and community, health, and the environment, and how school lunches, delivery workers, and grocery stores are impacted by local government.

NYC Public Schools serve free, healthy breakfast and lunch to students every day.

For a new recipe to make it onto the menu, it needs approval from 70% of student taste-testers. MOFP joined students to try four nutritious and delicious new recipes.

Universal school meals put money back in parents’ pockets, nourish children, and set students up for success in and beyond the classroom.
